Cold in Chicago

This week I traveled to Chicago to work and let me just tell you it was so cold. I am for sure a southern belle that is not interested in 15 layers of clothes just to walk outside for 30 seconds.

While I was there I got to experience a first and attend a NBA basketball game.

We went to see the Chicago Bulls play the Phoenix Suns at the United Center.

Although, I am not one to follow NBA it was a neat experience and the Bulls won!

I always enjoy visiting different places and seeing how society varies from place to place, but I am always thankful to head back south to my roots.

Projects 2012

I have been in a "project" mood this year so far. I have needed a cushion for a bench in our foyer for over a year now, but I just could not find one that I loved. I decided that I would try my hand at making one. I bought some foam and fabric to kick off the project. I had Bryan help me cut the foam, which by the way was very simple. I sent him on his way and I was ready to cover it. After I covered it I simply hot glued on some fringe and for about $15 the bench has a cushion.

I am still searching for some cute throw pillows; if you have any ideas on where to find some cute ones please let me know!

Wedding Bucket Memories

When I got married one of our friends made an ice bucket for us that was decorated with invitations from our wedding. There is nothing that I love more then a pretty invitation so they usually find there way into my desk drawer. I decided that for Christmas, Caroline and Taylor should have there very own invitation bucket. I bought the bucket from Lowe's and pulled out the Mod Podge in order to pull this project together. I was so excited at the way they turned out that I did not take a single picture. If you know Taylor and her administrative abilities I was in luck because, she had the pictures posted perfectly for me on her blog. Thanks Tay!

Ahoy Mates!

When my friend, Melodie, asked me if I would transform her little one, Redden's room into a BIG BOY room for Christmas I jumped on it. The first thing I did was ask Redden what would he like in his room and he told me a wide variety things. I asked him if he liked boats and he said "Ye...ah"!

So I set sail to find to all the perfect pieces to build his boat BIG BOY room. The Elf on the Shelf, Twinkle, left a note letting Redden know that his room was off limits until Christmas morning and that he would have to sleep with his brothers on Christmas Eve. I had everything in my workshop (the attic) ready to head over to their house Christmas Eve morning to put it all together. I got a taste of what it will be like to get everything ready when we have children, let me just say I was STRESSED.

The big boy bed from Pottery Barn, bedding from Ross and pillows from multiple locations I visited during my room search. The toy box he had in his room and we add some boat decals to dress it up a bit. The rug came from Lowe's, it has a compass in the middle and was trimmed in roping.

The oars came from Big Lots and the other items I shopped Melodie's house for.

I looked and looked for a lamp and final I found the perfect one.

Redden's favorite thing is the mirror above his dresser.

We had to have chalkboard near his desk and a place to display all is artwork.

Santa even left a note for him.

His desk area and on a whim we covered the cushion with a napkin that we found in the house.

Got to love it when a project comes together.

This sweet boy was thrilled on Christmas morning and has informed everyone that Santa took his crib to another baby that needed it. The funny thing is no one said a word to him about Santa taking his crib.

It all started 10 years ago when our worries were few and we were always in search of a good time; Taylor and I decided to have a Christmas party. After the first year we had so much fun that it became an annual tradition. Over the years we have made so many wonderful memories preparing for the party, enjoying everyone on the BIG night and even the clean up brought us memories! Lots of things have happened since that first year, we went from living down the hall from each other to being married ladies in two different towns. We decided that it was time to close out the tradition on year number 10 and this year the fun tradition came to a end.

This year we had the party at my house. I always have so much fun decorating the table.

A couple of weeks ago Taylor hosted our Bible study Christmas gathering; each year we do an ornament exchange. This is one of my very favorite times of the season, it is a night full of laughter. This year poor Stacey's ornament got stolen from her about 7 times, she informed us that she might have to resign from the group due to the fact that we were not treating her right. :) I am glad to report thanks to Taylor, Stacey left with one of the ornaments she really wanted and she has withdrawn her resignation.

Last weekend Caroline, Uncle Charles and myself headed to Vegas for the National Rodeo Finals! Caroline had been dreaming of going for years and with just a little talking got her Daddy on board. I tagged along to keep them in line. ;)

The rodeo was really good. I had only been to little rodeos; let me tell you there is a big difference!! This one was nonstop action from the moment it started.

We also celebrated Uncle Charles' 60th and my 30th on our trip.

We stayed at the Venetian and the Christmas decorations were awesome!!

Stuart and Josh are MARRIED!! The weekend before Thanksgiving we celebrated the marriage of Stuart and Josh. Stuart has always held a special place in my heart, I feel so blessed to have so many little brothers and sisters.

Our wedding filled Saturday was followed Sunday with the dedication of our God daughter, Hayley. I am so sad that I did not get any good pictures of her, she fell asleep on the way home. Hayley's dress was very special for 2 reasons it was made out her mom's wedding dress and her big sister wore it when she was dedicated. To say that Hayley loves Bryan is an understatement, I think he is pretty smitten with her too.

This past Thanksgiving was probably my favorite Thanksgiving so far, with each passing year I realize more and more the thousands of gifts God gives us each day. All of my Mom's siblings came home for the turkey feast and fellowship this year, it was the first time in 10 years they were all home. We started our parade of eating in Snow Hill with my Dad's family and then we made our way to the K for a family photo, more food and non stop laughter.

Fabulous Fall Weekend

So often I get caught up in the busyness of this world; I am really trying to make it a point to slow down and take in each gift HE has given me. Friday I took off from work, I kicked off my day with Taylor, Katie and Anna Kate at the Mainstreet sale in Washington. After I whirled around the sale grabbing some Christmas goods I headed to a Veteran's Day celebration in Snow Hill where my dad and brother both participated in the ceremony. It was very special to stop and honor the men and women who defend our freedom in years past and today. My Daddy did his mayoral duty and welcomed the crowd and dignitaries, then he handed the ceremony to Zack who briefly discussed his service and did the invocation. It was truly a time to reflect on the service and sacrifice of so many.

Friday evening we joined some friends and headed to a SoCo in Black Creek, which is right outside of Wilson for dinner. The people that own the SoCo remodeled an farm house and in the back they have a restaurant where they do dinner for groups of 8 or more each evening. It was a 4 course dinner and let me just tell you it was absolutely delicious.

If you are looking for a neat experience you should visit SoCo!

Yesterday my Mom came over and we went Christmas shopping. I am going to Las Vegas the first weekend in December and I have set a goal to have all my gifts bought and wrapped before I board the plane. So far I am very proud to say that I have made a huge dent and everything that has been bought is wrapped. My mom is crazy for those of you that do not know and yesterday she did not fail me I laughed so hard at that woman!!

As for today we had a great service at church, in Sunday school we started a study on HIS SPIRIT. I am super excited for this study. I hope that you and your family have enjoyed this weekend too!!

ECU GAME

Saturday we headed to Dowdy Ficklen to cheer on the Pirates.

The game was not so good, but the fellowship with friends was special as always.

Bryan's Saturdays are usually set aside for studying, but he got to venture out to the game this week!

It was Military Appreciation Day at the game complete with a fly over. I have to say that standing in a stadium observing so many Americans singing the "National Anthem" is one of those moment in life where you pause and you say "Thank you Jesus for those who serve". I think about all who make sacrifices each and everyday so we can live in the land of the free. Thank you Zack for your service to our nation, you always make me proud!!

Since the Pirates were not really playing football we decided we would head to see some real action....ANNA KATE!!

We had fun playing with AK and letting her show us all her tricks (counting to 10, waving "Bye" like she is about 13 etc.).

B had school so Pirate Dowdy helped me hand out all the goodies to the little ones on Halloween.

I always make "special" treats for the children we know.

This year we had Halloween s'more bags complete with pumkin Peeps, a Hersey bar and graham crackers.

Our "Pirate" helped me brave the storm and pass out goodies for a few hours.

I felt so sorry for the parents that had to brave the torrential down pours.

What a blessing it is to see the sweet little faces light up when you greet them with a treat.

Race for William

William the Warrior

On Sunday a group of us headed up to Durham to run a 10 miler for William. William was born in March to our friends, Jayme and David, from church. All of the money raised from the race was donated to research for Down Syndrome. It was so moving to see so many people support such a great cause. I was honored to be apart of "The William Warrior" team.

COME ON!!!

This past weekend we did some celebrating from a baby to a new initial!

Last Saturday we celebrated E and baby Ethan! We can't wait to meet the little "E".

Stacey's little sister, Stuart, is getting married in November so we thought it fitting to give her a monogram shower to carry on the tradition.

In case you did not know I love blogland and it is full of ides. I got a picture for 10 cents at a yard sale; I slapped some chalkboard paint on it, painted the frame green and added a some ribbon.
We used it in the center of the table.

We gave all the southern belles in attendance a good ole whoopie pie to say "Thanks for coming".

Welcome to Club 30!!

On October 5th I turned the big 3-0. To be completely honest I am excited about my 30's and what the Lord has in store. As I look back on my 20's HE did some major work in my life so, let the 30's begin.

Yesterday was our second home game of the season.

I headed out to the game to do a little tailgating with the crew

before we headed in to cheer on the Pirates.

We decided to do a Mexican themed tailgate and it was awesome.

Cowboy Caviar

Chips and Salsa

Chips with Fruit Salsa

Sopapilla Cheesecake

Rice Crispy Treats with Candy Corn

I made the chips with fruit salsa.

I was a little nervous, because I had never attempted to make it.

It was actually really good.

Salsa

1 can of crushed pineapple

1 can of mandarin oranges

1 cup of grapes

cinnamon and Splenda

Drain the fruit

Cut your grapes in half

Mix together and then you have to blend it together really good

Drain the extra juice out

Add cinnamon and Splenda to taste

Chips

Soft Tortillas

cinnamon and Splenda

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Spray both sides of the tortillas with cooking spray

Sprinkle both sides with Splenda and cinnamon

Stack all tortillas together and cut into chips with a pizza cutter

Place in the oven for 5-7 minutes

ENJOY!!

Dowdy turned 3 on September 6th and we celebrated his special day with cake just for him!We sang "Happy Birthday" and he had a candle.

I was so not a "dog person" until this little furry fella came into my life.

Zack is in Missouri training for a couple of months for his new job. My mom and I decided that we would meet up with him for the weekend in St. Louis.

There was a game on Friday night so after a dinner at a local tapas restaurant we headed down towards the stadium, we found this neat little patio where we enjoyed some yogurt and live music.

On Saturday morning we heard drums, mom went to the window and announced "Look at all those people coming down the street."After a few minutes of speculating just what could be going on I had to go find out. When I got downstairs I realized it was an Indian wedding and this was the groom's entrance complete with drums, dancing and a horse dressed to the 9s.

There were tons of horse and carriage downtown, but I think this one was for a princess.

We had a grand time this weekend in St. Louis, traveling with my mom and Zack is exciting to say the least.

Marriage Advice

Kelly's Korner is having a "Linkie Party" for marriage advice, while I am no expert I thought I would share a few thoughts that we try to live by.

#1-You have to know who leads you. I will steal the closing remarks from Tay and Brad's wedding "Let the Lord guide you each step of the way and never forget to follow". Bryan and I try to make it a point to let the Lord lead us everyday. A few things we do....we hold each other accountable spiritually, we pray most everyday before we head off to face the world, we are not afraid to get on our knees together and cry out to God and we are involved with a body of believers. While we are a far cry away from experiencing the depth of the relationship we desire with HIM I hope that when it is said in done he will say "The Radfords were faithful".

#2-Be a TEAM!! Bryan and I are both extremely independent people so this was one thing we had to get in order early on, even prior to marriage we knew that we had to be a team. We each have a part to play in our marriage we know our strengths and leverage those, while the other picks up during our weak moments. An example, would be I don't mind at all washing dishes while I am not one the yard, but Bryan takes great pride in that so he takes that and I take the dishes.

#3-Have a BUDGET!!!!! On the way home from our honeymoon I broke out the laptop and we put together a budget for the our household. I don't necessarily recommend doing it on the way home from the honeymoon, but do it soon. I am little OCD over a budget so I will let that example the need to break out the laptop in route from our honeymoon. I would also say that for us it has worked to have a ELR account, The Radford account and a SBR account that way we each have a our own and we have our household account. However, I have had friends that have one account and it works well for them. If you are a 1 account or 3 account family just have a budget. :)

While I will be the first to admit that marriage it hard, but I look at as a journey and I thank God that I get to walk the path beside Bryan (most days:)).

Hooter's Tour in Snow Hill

Cutter Creek in Snow Hill hosted the Hooter's tour this week. Daddy had been begging us to come over for a little bit of the action. Saturday morning we all met up at his house to enjoy a breakfast with the golfer, Corey, that Daddy and Ms. Terry had hosted this week. Unfortnately, Corey missed the cut by 2 strokes so we said our goodbyes to him and headed to the course. Daddy has had the opportunity over the past week to spend a good amount of time with the golfers in the evenings. The town of Snow Hill extended a great big southern welcome to the golfers with meals and games each night. Daddy had a favorite, Brandon Brown, that he was dying for us to see or should I say Zack and Bryan to see. I must admit it was pretty entertaining to follow these guys as they played their hearts out. I dismissed myself a little early, but Daddy and B followed Brandon the entire round. As of yesterday afternoon he was in the lead so, Daddy and B hit the course to follow him today to victory. You can read all about the tournament and Brandon's win below.

The Bowen Wedding Weekend

After the rehearsal at the church we headed over to Rock Springs to enjoy a scrumptious meal and fabulous fellowship hosted by Brad's parents.

The cake warned everyone "Fore Brad is off the market"; I might add that it tasted as good as it looks.

Brad's sister, Brittany and her beau, Andrew sang a song wrote especially for the soon to be Bowens; it was too cute!!

We decided to a progressive toast for Taylor and Brad. We each went up one by one based on how long we had known Taylor, Jessica kicked us off and Katie rounded it out. We all stayed at Taylor's moms house on Friday night, when we got up that morning we all went our separate ways for a while before reconvening at Bojangles for some good breakfast. I went and ran with Zack, he decided that he would come join in on the wedding morning fun.

The weekend was truly a blast!! What a blessing it is to gather with friends and family to celebrate the union of two very special people in our lives. I loved what the preacher told Taylor and Brad yesterday as they left the church, he said "As you walk down that aisle in just a moment picture Jesus walking in front of you and remember to let him lead you everyday of your life." That advice was spot on! It is my prayer that Jesus guides The Bowen marriage each day.

Last weekend we loaded up and headed to Savannah to celebrate with the soon to be MRS. BOWEN. Above is the house we stayed in downtown Savannah. It was neat to stay right downtown in a historic home. We rented this off of VRBO website if you have never visited it you should, they have great deals!

This summer is going by way too fast, but it has been a fun one. A few weekends ago we had the opportunity to keep our friends, Melodie and James' 3 little boys. It was a great way to test drive parenthood and I am happy to report that I enjoyed every minute. The boys are Will (7), Lee (6) and Redden (2). You know I am not one for setting around so I had some actvities in store for the weekend for us. On Saturday we started our day at a rodeo, we went out to lunch and quick trip to WalMart. That afternoon we came home to let Redden nap and the big boys read and watched a movie. I must admit Ms. Elizabeth had to "rest" her eyes for a few minutes too. Saturday evening we loaded up and head to my house for a Father's Day cookout. I am proud to say on Sunday I got 3 little boys and myself ready to go to church and we were 5 minutes early!! It was such a fun weekend, what special blessings children are in our lives.

A Little Project

In honor of my 2nd wedding anniversary which is tomorrow I thought I would share a little project that I did with you. I had a monogrammed ribbon around my bouquet when I walked

down the aisle and I wanted to showcase it. As I was making my weekly rounds in blog land I saw where another southern girl had showcased the outfits her boys came home from the hospital in using a shadow box. I thought that will be perfect for my ribbon. I gathered material, the ribbon, a shadow box and my iron to start putting it all together. It was really easy and I love the way it turned out. The only dilemma now is where do I want to hang it???

I have been in a crafty mood over the past few weeks so stay tuned for some more projects. The spray paint has made it out of the garage!! :)

I am a little behind times in the blog world. The weekend before last we celebrated with the brides to be, Caroline and Taylor. On Sunday Caroline had a shower at our home church in Kinston. She got lots of nice things. The countdown is on Caroline's big day is May 14th.

It has become a tradition with our group of girls to give a monogram shower. We had a lot of fun planning and throwing the shower for Taylor. She got some precious "B" things.

God's Provision

On Saturday North Carolina experienced a line of horrific storms that included some violent tornados. The weather men were forecasting bad weather, but I am not sure that any warning could prepare us for what followed. We had enjoyed an afternoon tea in honor of Taylor at our house. Due to the weather report the girls that lived in Greenville quickly headed home, M, Jessica, Mom and Angie decided to stay until it passed. We were enjoying our time together when we heard on the news a tornado was headed towards downtown Wilson, Bryan immediately ordered us all into the hall. In a matter of minutes it turned dark and the wind picked up. The tornado passed through our neighborhood impacting the street behind us, the house 4 doors down from us and the street in front of us. God provided us with safety through the storm. There were many homes and business that were destroyed by this storm. Please pray that these people will find peace and strength during this time. Last Fling Before the Ring

Caroline will be married in 6 weeks!! We headed down to the coast for the last fling before the ring last night and we had a blast!!

When Alex and Zack got married her lingerie shower was so cute, on your invitation you were told what type of gift to bring. (IE-cotton night gown) Alex made the cute invites for Caroline's big weekend. When it was time to open the gifts Alex read a poem before each one.
We started off with what Caroline will wear on the night of her 50th anniversary. It was flannel pajamas from our Grandma!! We had gifts for her 50th, 25th, 10th and 1st.

Then we moved to the week of the honeymoon.

March 31st=Special Day at the Radfords

Most of you probably know that Bryan decided a few years ago that he wanted to go to law school. Right after we got married B started studying for the LSAT, he took it in late 2009 and applied for law school in early 2010. We prayed for God's perfect plan and he was not accepted last year. Bryan decided that he would retake the LSAT and try to raise his score. Let me just tell you he studied hours on end; it paid off the score went up. He applied in November for admissions into the night program at NC Central. We got back on our knees, lots of people joined us on our knees (Thank You!) and we waited to see what would happen this year. You know we are not getting any younger and I would like to have some little Radfords one day, but we got to get the schooling out of the way. Yesterday, when I got home from work I started cleaning when B got home from the gym he asked me if I wanted to see the award he won at work I went over to get it and this is what I saw....well I know you can't exactly read it, but he got accepted!! Bryan will embark on this journey in August 2011. I am very proud of him, but I think the best thing is that God has taught us so much through the process. We have prayed together, fasted together, cried together and praised HIM together as we waited on his plan.

It is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

This year for lent I am giving up Facebook because, if I am true to myself I can get sucked into the FB world rather quickly. I have never spent a lot of time thinking about why do I make the choice to give up some thing for lent other than the fact that it is the least I can do for all that Jesus did for me on the cross. This year for some reason I have thought about lent differently and really wanted to make sure that I have made it more than just giving up Facebook. Lent last 40 days because , according to biblical accounts, Jesus went into the wilderness for 40 days of fasting and meditation before his ministry, with that said I want to make sure that I take these 40 days to meditate on the One and Only asking him to reveal the "ME STUFF" that keeps me from experiencing his full glory in my life. I read somewhere in blog land about a lady that spends the 40 days of lent clearing out every nook and cranny in her house. I thought that was the coolest idea, how often do we let all the "stuff" physical or emotional crowd over lives. I decided to take that on as a little side project and this week I have been working on the attic, oh my goodness the attic!! It is such a beautiful season to turn from the old and run to the new. What did you give up for lent? I would love to hear from you as we walk this journey to Easter morn together.

As I write this post I give God all the honor and glory for reigning so big in our lives each day. About a month ago my Dad had an episode and he thought he was having a heart attack, he went to the hospital and it was determined he was not having a heart attack. That night started a series of test as we all anxiously waited to find out what was going on. The nuclear stress test revealed something the doctor was not happy to see and he suggested bypass surgery. My Dad went for a second a opinion and he heard the same news, surgery was a must. This past Tuesday Dr. Chitwood performed robotic bypass surgery on my Dad. Dr. Chitwood shared with the family that my Dad had a heart condition referred to as the "Widow Maker", basically this is fatal in the event of a heart attack. My Dad is home today and beginning his recovery. This week our family has been blessed with an outpouring of calls, texts, cards, prayers, visits and goodies. I know that God has BIG plans for DK, because it is evident that his hand was all over him!!

Taylor is a BIG sister!! Our friends Katie and Daryl had another precious angel on Thursday.

We welcome Hayley Elizabeth Cherry to the world!! I am slack with the camera, but there will be pictures to come. Until then take it from me she is precious!!

Fun Weekends

I just love the weekends, it such a great time to spend time with those that are so dear to you. I have done a terrible job of capturing the past 2 weekends in pictures, but I will share anyway. :)

Last Friday night we had dinner with Katie, Daryl and Taylor. We always enjoy the time we get to spend with Miss Taylor, she is 4 literally going on 25. Last Saturday night we headed to LA to celebrate Alex's Dad, Mr. Ted's 50th birthday . On Sunday we went to Snow Hill for church to watch Ms. Terry and Daddy join the church. After going to Liberty for 5 years they thought they would join! My Daddy shared his testimony which was very touching. I praise God for the words my Daddy shared and Ms. Terry being such a pray warrior.

This weekend we headed to Kinston to watch Josiah on the homecoming court, he was the 7th grade representative. I left my camera in the car-nice. I have to tell you that he was some kind of handsome. On Saturday we went with Reagan and Todd to the Carolina game. My favorite part was the food of the day, Brixx for lunch, Angus Barn for dinner and Yogen Fruz for a little something sweet!! Okay, you know I love something sweet and the Yogen Fruz was the bomb for 110 calories-Thanks Reagan for introducing me! Today we went to Ms. Lillie for a gourmet lunch, she is quite the chef. After shrimp and seafood manicotti it was time for some zzzzzzs. I hope you had a fun weekend!! Until next time may many blessings come your way.

We spent New Year's Eve with the Meeks, Beddards, and soon to be Bowens. The highlight of the evening was Anna Kate and Connor!!

My friends, Brad popped the question and Taylor said yes! We spent one day during Christmas vacation searching and finding the perfect dress!!

Bryan is the hardest person to buy gift for so, every year I try to think outside of the box for at least one of his gifts. This year I decided to get a painting of Dowdy for him. Although, I said a thousand times I would not do this before children, I caved!

We got married on Derby Day and B gave me the poster from the day we got married.

We get stockings each year on Christmas Eve and they are always filled with some fun gifts. This year we got "grills" and tatoo sleeves.

We hosted the Liles' Christmas Eve this year, I got to use my Christmas china. It was fun and a lot of work.

Back in the summer my Mom decided to work on her physical condition. She decided to start training for a 5K. She would come over about 1-2 times a week and train with me and Dowdy. She completed the rest of her training on her own. On October 30th she finished her first race!!

I am a little behind times in the blogging world. I guess life never slows down. :)

We celebrated Mary Beth's Birthday a few Sundays ago. After we ate I had to capture a few pictures of Bailey. She is growing so fast and she is a "Miss Priss" for sure. Last night, we went out to eat with them and I am amazed at all the things she can say. She talks with so much expression. We will celebrate Bailey's birthday next weekend. She will be 2!!

We hosted the August Sunday School social at our house. I wanted to share a few pictures of the kids. They are all so cute and special!

Harper is trying to get James to look at the camera. This picture takes me back to when I was little and always trying to get Zack to do something. :) The moments between a brother and sister are priceless.

Are you ready for Bible study??!!?? We decided to take a summer break and it time to get back into the swing of things. I had the opportunity to study with some girls in Wilson over the summer and I am going to co-lead a group here in the fall. However, I can't wait to get back to studying God's word with the Greenville girls too. In Greenville we are going to do the Bible study "No Other Gods" by Kelly Mitner and in Wilson we are doing "Faithful, Abundant, True".

On Tuesday of last week I got to go meet a special little one...Miss Addision. Casey and I have been friends for years, but over the past 6 months she has been my prayer partner for Bible study. I was so excited to meet this little one. I put together the box above for the parents and Miss Priss. If you know me you know that I LOVE a basket or box filled with goodies. I forgot to take my camera in so no pics of Addison, but head over to her blog to see Addison.

I was headed to the beach last Wednesday when KT called to tell me that I was going to be an Auntie on Thursday. Will You Help Me Pray...

I am sure that many of you know by now that Zack was deployed again earlier this month. I have been meaning to do this post for a few weeks now. I just wanted to ask that you please join us in praying for Zack during his time away. We always end our conversation with Zack telling me what we can pray for. Our last conversation he asked that prayers be lifted for his patience and anxiety. I ask that you not only pray for him, but the other men and women that are serving as well.

This week in my Bible study we talked about Abraham and how he displayed incredible obedience by offering Issac as a sacrifice. As a result of his steadfast faith God blessed Abraham with such sweet rewards. I am so thankful that there are men and women that answer the call to serve our country. Also, I am challenged to look at my life to make sure that maintain obedience like Abraham displayed.

Summer Fun

We have had a fun summer weekend. Friday night we headed to Nashville to eat at Ribeye's. After we ate we went over to visit Mr. Johnny and Ms. Patty (B's dad and stepmom). Saturday I headed to Greenville to meet Aunt Angie, Caroline and Mama to look for a wedding dress for Caroline. Caroline said "Yes to the dress!!". She found the perfect dress for her. :) Saturday night we had the Greenville crew and Mama over for dinner. We always have so much fun with the crew. I spend my entire night laughing at Bryan Meeks.

We had fun playing with Connor. He had to change into his PJs before heading home. Is he not the cutest!?! The next gathering we will have a new crew member-Miss Anna Kate should be here.

Today we went to church and then we went to Raleigh with Ms. Lillie and Mr. Jimmy (B's mom and stepdad) to eat at Jason's Deli and shop a little. I am in love with Jason's Deli. The salad bar and turkey wrap are soooo good to me. As you can see below The Radford family ended the day with a nice nap! We feel so blessed to have been able to share our weekend with our friends and family.

Last Sunday we had a time of celebration at the Radford home...we celebrated Father's Day with my Dad, Zack's send off for his upcoming deployment and Ms. Lillies birthday. Below are a few pics from the evening.

Father's Day was a bit different this year for the Liles family. Zack is deploying next week and before each deployment our Pastor prays over him. So the entire clan went to church in Kinston on Father's Day to be with Zack as he prepares. Although, this was somewhat of a sad note our Dad at the same time was beaming with pride at the man the Zack has become.

As we sat in church on Sunday we were surprised by several of our friends that came to support him. I tell you when I left I felt so blessed to know that so many people support Zack and the other men and women who go out and serve our country.

Fun Weekend

Last weekend I went to Savannah, Georgia with my some my Wilson friends Amity and Melodie. We had a very nice relaxing weekend.

My favorite part was eating at "The Lady and Sons". I admit I am a Paula Deen fan. I admire the fact that she took $200 and built a booming business.

We took a tour of the city and visited St.John's Cathedral. It was beautiful.

Along the walls they had built ins that told the store of the journey Jesus took to the cross. It was so neat to walk around that beautiful church and be reminded of the journey that Jesus took for me and you.

The homes were beautiful!!

We ran each morning to Forsyth Park. Along the trail we saw the 2 statues above and this fountain. This fountain was ordered out of mail order catalog for $2500 many years ago. Can you imagine how much it would cost today?! It was a nice relaxing weekend in such a beautiful southern town.

Thanks to the men and women who fight for our freedom so that we can enjoy each day. May the gratitude that we experience on Memorial Day live in our hearts each day. You girls and guys make me so proud!!

Jenn from http://www.southernsavers.com came and taught the course. I am a Walmart shopper for my groceries and personal items, but according to Jenn better deals are to be found elsewhere. She gave us some great tips on buying and stocking up when items are at the rock bottom price. Did you know that grocery stores run on a 6 week cycle for sales........the corn that is on sale this week will not be on sale again for 6 weeks. Friday we kicked off the weekend celebrating Alex's graduation. Alex graduated from nursing school on Friday. Congrats Allie!!

Saturday night we headed to Brad's for a pig pickin'. It was so nice to spend time with the crew. I miss so much living 5 minutes from them so every moment I get I cherish. Last Friday we headed to Las Vegas for a few days. My Uncle Horace goes several times a year and he invited us to go. It happened to be perfect timing for our 1 year anniversary. So we headed out with about 20 people Vegas bound. We saw some beautiful sites, ate lots of yummy food and went to see 2 amazing shows. We saw "O" and "Jersey Boys". The shows were complete opposites. If you enjoy music "Jersey Boys" is the show for you and if you want to be amazed "O" is your show. B, Elizabeth,Daddy and Terry

B watches the show Pawn Stars on the History channel. We had to find the pawn shop while we were in Vegas. This pawn shop has everything from Olympic gold medal to championship rings. Bryan and I walked 6 MILES to get to the pawn shop and we took the taxi back 6 miles. :) The things you will do for your husband.Last Sunday we celebrated our 1 year anniversary with breakfast in bed complements of my Dad, Terry, Uncle Horace and Gabrielle. It was wonderful. While I was in Las Vegas I feel in love with eggs benedict. I can't believe that Bryan and I have been married for one year. This past year has been special and we have experienced many first along the way. I am so thankful to share my life with Bryan. I love you B!!

Iowa

In my job I get the opportunity to travel which is nice and it can be overwhelming at times. I usually travel to the same spots....Knoxville, TN and Chicago. However, I am helping out Iowa and Nebraska while they search for someone to fill the open Associate Relations role. I got to make my first trip to Iowa a couple of weeks ago. It was really a pretty place. I have always heard people describe it as "Wide Open Spaces" and that is exactly what it is. Their are fields for as far as the eye can see. It was neat to see a different part of God's creation.

Yesterday we celebrated my Papa's 79th birthday. Last week we had a little scare with him having to be in the hospital for a couple of days so today we rejoice in the fact that he is regaining his strength. I am so thankful for the relationship that I share with Papa. He is a spirtual advisors, carpenter, painter, fixer upper, prayer warrior, father, brother, neighbor, papa and the list could go on of all the roles that he plays in my life and many others. I am so thankful that I got to share his day with him. The Barrow's had our family over for a cookout. (I forgot my camera.:)) It was a great way to start my week celebrating with a man that means so much to me and Bryan. Happy Birthday Papa!!

I hope that you each had a wonderful Easter. I think Easter is becoming my favorite holiday. I am so humbled by what Jesus did for you and me. He was willing to give up his life for a sinner like me. Jesus-thank you so much!!

Our Easter weekend was special. Friday night Bryan was a narrator in our "Tenebrae" (latin for darkness) service at church. I had never been to a "Tenebrae" service, but it really set the tone for the weekend. We left the church in silience remembering what Jesus did for us. Then on Saturday we had our families over to celebrate. Sunday we went to Kinston to go to church with my family. Then my mom cooked for us. Sunday evening we relaxed and went to visit Bryan's mom. I hope you Easter was special too!

Saturday was the BIG day!! I can't begin to tell you how nervous I was on Friday and then Saturday morning as we drove to Raleigh. I kept thinking what if I can't finish. Mind you that I had followed the training plan to a "t"-I am a little OCD!! We started off and it was exciting hearing the bands for the first few miles. At about mile 6 I was thinking what in the world made me want to do this. Then I hit the "Greenway" (which Amanda had warned me about :)) and it was a trail full of HILLS. I kept asking Melodie "How much further do you think?". She would calmly tell me "You are fine...come on Elizabeth." At mile 10 I was thinking can I really finish. Then at mile 11 I was really tired, but I knew I could finish. As we turned the corner to approach the finish line it was an AWESOME feeling. I started crying like a baby and then out of no where appeared a guy that grabbed my arm....it was ZACK!! I did not know he was coming and he ran the last few steps with me. I enjoyed training and I will forever be grateful to my coach MELODIE. She kept this girl going. I have include pictures from the day. Thank you so much to everyone that donated money to our campaign for Cancer!! Also, thank you to each of you that ventured out to see me on race day. It meant so much to see each of you at the finish line.

The Radford home has been busy over the past few weeks and I have thought at least a 100 times I need to update the blog. So hopefully this post we get me up to speed.

We finished our Ruth Bible study a couple of weeks ago and it was so good!! I learned so much about Ruth, Naomi and Boaz. The best nugget of information that I found out was that Ruth would have be Jesus' great, great, great, great, great grandmother. That spoke to me so much. I thought my goodness if Ruth would not have followed God's will for her life so many things could have been different. It really made me stop and think about how open I need to be when I feel the "tug" on my heart. I would highly recommend this study. This week we are starting a new study called "Enjoy". I am looking forward to learning about the book of Philippians.

Race day is getting closer and closer. We have been following a training plan and this week on Wednesday we completed our last "big" run before the race. We ran 10.8 miles and when I ran back up to Melodie's house I really felt like crying. I wanted to cry for a couple of reasons-1-I still can't believe my uncoordinated self has made it this far.-2-I was about to die!! :) We will continue to do normal runs with a few long runs until the big day March 28th. It has been rewarding training, but I would be lying if I said that I am not so happy to almost have behind me.

This guy turned a year older on Wednesday. We had fun celebrating with Daddy last Sunday and then I got to go have dinner with him and Terry on his big day. My Daddy is one of the funniest guys I know. I so thankful that God truly blessed him with such a BIG personality.

I decided that this year I would give up something for Lent. I started thinking what should I give up that I really LOVED and I decided that I would give up ice cream. I have a little confession to make I eat ice cream all too often. I love the fact that I can have a vanilla cone from McDonald's for a 150 calories or sugar free vanilla from Beyer's for 80 calories. There is no better sweet treat that will not bust your diet than ice cream. This is has been a good experience for be so far. Every time I think of how I want to indulge in my beloved vanilla cone I thank God for what he did for you and me. The ice cream that I give up pales in comparison of what he did to ensure that we could have eternal life. Thank Lord for what you did for me. By the way I will have ice cream for dessert on Easter Sunday. :)

One Year Ago Today...

One year ago today we were rushing around the church. The girls were putting the final touches on their make up and the boys were doing who knows what, but the one thing the girls and guys had in common is we were all going to the chapel to witness the wedding of Alex and Zack. It is hard to believe that it has been a year since their wedding day. Happy Anniversay Allie and Zack!!

Last weekend we went to Wrightsville Beach with my mom, Terry, Zack, Alex, Brad (Terry's son) and Kendra. We had a really good time and it is snowed! I had never seen snow at the beach so it was really neat.

At dinner last Saturday night Zack surprised Alex with the top layer of their wedding cake. He wanted them to be able to eat their actual cake on their anniversary so he got the bakery to recreate their top layer to bring to the beach. When the waiter brought it out Alex was sooo surprised.

Bryan is not the easiest person in the world to buy for so I always have to really think outside of the box for his gifts. I wanted to get him something we would remember 50 years from now since it was our first Valentine's as the Radfords. I decide I would get him tickets to an Atlanta Braves game. Allie helped me put together a basket of clues. We include a little poem with each item. Some of the items were...Cracker Jacks, Peanuts, a peach candle (since ATL is known for their peaches), Babe Ruth candy bar, red and blue gumballs and a few other things. He guessed in no time flat that we were headed to a Braves game.

This past Saturday Mom and I headed to Durham to meet Miss Alexa. Heather, Shane, Zack and myself grew up together in Snow Hill and Kinston. We had so much fun together growing up from playing on the farm in Snow Hill to sleeping in the water bed in Kinston. It is still hard to believe that we are grown married women and Heather has 2 beautiful children. It seems just yesterday we were playing on the dirt road. It was so good to see Heather, Caden , Jason and Alexa this weekend.

We took Caden a present for being such a great big brother. He was so cute on Saturday. He opened his presents and then moved on to Alexa's presents. After he had opened all the presents he said "Lots of presents".

Half Marathon

I am going to mark one thing off of my bucket list. I am currently training for a half marathon. I am registered for the Raleigh Rocks Half Marathon on March 27th. We started training right before Christmas. It has been quite an adventure. I run Tuesday through Friday my normal route with my running partner Melodie. Then on Saturday mornings we do a "Big" run. This is the day where I ask myself "Why?". It is hard to get out there and do it, but there is no greater feeling when you finish the run. On Saturday we ran 9.5 miles. I never, ever dreamed that I would do that. I have to tell you that I find some of my sweetest moments with Jesus when I am out there running. On Saturday morning when we were doing our last mile we were quiet and I could hear a little bird singing. I began praying just thanking God for all that he has given me. I am so humbled by his presence. I will keep you posted as I continue to train. If you have any tips or tricks please share.

Friday night we went out to dinner with the Powells and when walked out of the resturant I told Lee that it was snowing. All the adults did not believe me, but Will, Lee and myself knew we saw some snowflakes. Then in a matter of about 5 minutes on the way home it was coming down! When we woke up on Saturday day morning it was white outside. This weekend has been so nice and relaxing. I have downloaded and ordered pictures, napped, surfed the web, rearranged every lamp in my house and spent some qt time with my two favorite boys B and Dowdy.

Last night I was on the phone talking to my brother, Zack, as he drove back to Savannah when I rounded the corner to find Dowdy in my closet. He had pushed the door open and climbed in my dirty clothes laundry basket. I immediatly had to get my camera to take a quick picture. If God blesses us with children one day I can't imagine how "wrapped" I will be, because Dowdy has me pretty tight!! Let this be a reminder to us all to take time to smile this week! :)

I wish each of you a Happy 2010!! It is hard to believe that we are at the beginning of another new year. This past year has been such a great year in our lives. I thought that I would take a minute to glance back over our year.

January-We were in fully engaged in finalizing the plans for Zack and Alex's wedding. I was working on the details for my big day. We were all waiting for Zack to come home.

February-Zack came home safe once again!! Zack and Allie got married on February 21st. I got a sister!! This month was so much fun celebrating Zack and Alex.

March-Dowdy started obiedence school...it works about 50% of the time these days. :) The wedding bells were ringing in the distance...there were showers and wedding invites to send out.

April-The bells were getting closer-wedding showers, finalizing all the details, bridal portraits. I was swimming in preparing for our BIG day. I loved planning our wedding. I had heard all the horror stories and I was a little nervous. Planning my wedding was really a wonderful experience. If you need any help planning your day let me know I would love to help.

Oh I almost forgot we bought our first home together in Wilson. This was when I realized that I was really about to MARRIED!!

May-We got married on May 2nd. It was the best day of my life. I had a blast from my morning wedding day run with Caroline and Allie to doing "my dance" with the girls and Stuart. Thanks Stu for teaching me the dance. :) Then we had such a wonderful time on our honeymoon.

We moved to Wilson. We left our homes in Greenville and Clayton to meet in the middle. This was a big step for me.

June-We spent time settling into our home. I about worked Bryan to death on projects. If you came in our yard and stood still you probably would have been spray painted black! B was such a trooper.

Gentry gave me a "Meet and Greet" social in Wilson. I met so many nice girls...who soon became friends. I finally met someone to run with. THANK GOD for MELANIE!!

We started visiting First Baptist in Wilson. We both really liked it and felt that it was a great place to serve.

July-We were still working on the house. I did go join Uncle Charles, Aunt Angie, Caroline and Josiah for our annual beach vacation.

August-Guess what... still working on the house. I was hitting yard sales every weekend and bringing home fun projects to help us bond together. It is a wonder Bryan did not leave and head back to his nice project free home in Clayton.

Mama started her Anatomy course in college. This was an experience for us all. :) I am so proud of her for going back to school. She finished the course with an A in December!!

We went to the Outer Banks with the crew. We were sad because, The Meeks could not join us due to Bryan's back surgery.

Zack deployed at the end of August. Once again God is teaching me to just TRUST!

September-We celebrated Dowdy's first birthday! I was so not a dog person-boy has he changed me.

October-We enjoyed fall in our new home-yes there were still projects in the making. :)

November-Daddy won the election for Mayor.

Bryan and I spent our first Thanksgiving as a married couple.

I started decorating our house for Christmas.

December-I finished decorating our house. We had Christmas in every room complete with 4 trees. It was fun decorating-not so much taking it down.

We had our annual Elizabeth and Taylor Christmas party.

We spent our first Christmas as a married couple. It was the first time in our lives we had not stayed at home on Christmas eve. We got a chance to celebrate the reason for the season with our families and many friends.

Well...2009 was quite a year! I can't wait to see what God has in store for 2010. I hope that God blesses each of you in a very special way this year!

As children we would go to White's Lights in on Christmas Eve. This year after we left Ronnie and Barbara's Zack was dying to go. I piled into Zack's truck with him and Allie and off we went. We giggled like we were 10 again! It was so much fun.

Then Santa needed a little help with a football field so went to the Powells to help out. My friend, Melodie's boys got a football field complete with field goals from Santa. It was awesome!! This was my first year helping Santa and it made Christmas Eve so fun.

I am missing a few...I forgot my camera when we did Christmas with the Radfords and poor Mama did not make it in a photo. My college roommate Taylor and I decided one random night 8 years ago to have a Christmas party at our house. We were far from domestic divas, but we did break in the kitchen the night before the party. I am known for loving to "throw the heat" when I am cooking and that night 8 years ago I did just that to a batch of Hello Dollies and to say the least it was not a pretty sight. We said then that we were going to do this every year no matter what and we have kept our promise. We look forward to this each year and you would be happy to know that the food has come along way since that first Christmas party. :)

Our family has a tradition that we go to Mike's Tree farm to help us all get into the Christmas spirit. We headed there a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful time. At the end of the hayride of lights there is a big American flag flying and they play "God Bless the USA". That always touches all the hearts on the ride. Last year I wept because, Zack was overseas and this year I smiled and thanked God because on that very day he came home. I give God all the glory, honor and praise for bringing him home to us once again safe and sound. Please continue to pray for those still serving overseas during this holiday season.

Thanksgiving Wrap Up

We had a fun filled Thanksgiving week and weekend. We started out our Thanksgiving at The Little Willie Center in Greenville. The Little Willie Center is a center that serves under privlege children. I have had the opportunity over the past few years to volunteer tutoring at the center. On Thanksgiving Day they open up to the community and serve a meal. Bryan and I started the tradition about 3 years ago to go and volunteer before we go have our Thanksgiving meal. I am always reminded just how blessed we are and my heart is warmed to hear those that are less fortunate be so thankful for a meal. My mom decided to join us this year. Then we headed to my Uncle Horace's house for our family Thanksgiving. We had sooo much good food. It was nice spending time with our family. Uncle Howard, Aunt Miriam, Daddy, Uncle HoraceI talked my Mom, Aunt Angie and Caroline into doing a little "Early Bird" shopping with me. My mom spent the night with me and Angie and Caroline came over at 4:30 am. We headed out to Target to meet up with at least 200 of our "closest" friends. We did get some good deals, but most importantly we really had a good time together. I came home and crashed. Then Friday night I went over to a friend's house in Wilson to play Bunco. I have been wanting to play so bad with group since I moved here so they got a group together to play. Saturday was game day. Decked out in purple and gold off to Dowdy Ficklen we go. The Pirates won and we will host the conference championship next weekend in Gville. GO PIRATES!!!

Saturday night Bryan and went to see "The Blind Side". I am not a big movie fan, but this movie was so good. If you have not seen it you should go. Today was church and then one more Thanksgiving feast with Bryan's mom. We had BBQ turkey and it was really good. The best part about Thanksgiving is that I got to spend time with Bryan, my family and friends without having to rush to my next desintation. I hope that you enjoyed your Thanksgiving too!!

I love Thanksgiving week. It is the kick off of the holiday season. The decorations go up, let the shopping begin, seeing family and friends, good food and the list could go on. Before I jump in to enjoy the festivities I want to take the time to reflect on the things that I have to be thankful for this year.

-I got married! I survived planning a wedding and the first 6 months of marriage. :) In all seriousness I am so thankful for Bryan.

-Health-I count it a true blessing to get up each morning and feel good.

-Family-With me and Zack getting married this year my family has extended quite a bit. I am so thankful that I have my family to laugh with, cry with, and just be "me" with.

-Friends-The new and the old friends are all such a blessing to me. My old friends have been so supportive of me over the past year from the 1,000 wedding showers to moving to Wilson. My new friends are what have helped this girl that does NOT like change adjust to Wilson and boy am I thankful for that!

-Job-I am very thankful that each day when I get up I have a job to go to. Also, I blessed with a job that I love.

-Church-When we moved to Wilson we sat out to find just the right place to serve. I am so thankful we found First Baptist and Cornerstone Sunday School class.

-Bible Study Girls-I do not know what I would do or where I would be without this group of girls. Studying God's word with this group of ladies is such a blessing.

-Service Men and Women-When I lay down at night I know they are working hard to defend our freedom. Thank you!!

-Zack's Safety-I know that over the past year he has faced many dangerous things and God truly has held him in the palm of his hands.

These are truly just a few of the things that I am thankful for, but the most precious thing that I am thankful for is my salvation. I am so glad that I am a daughter of the King!

Wherever you may go to celebrate may you find a moment to reflect on all the things we have to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Veterans Day!!

To those men and women that have served and continue to serve our country I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Since Zack has joined the Army have been reminded on so many occassions just what a sacrifices that are our service people make each day. We are truly a blessed nation and today I stop to salute each of you that have served or are currently serving.

I ask that you continue to lift Zack and all the service men and women that are currently overseas in your prayers. We will not have contact with Zack for a couple of weeks so please pray that God provides him with the strength that he needs. Also, please keep his wife Alex in your prayers as she waits for Zack to return.

Zack-you know that I am so proud of you for being willing to follow the call of God. I can't wait to see you!! I send my love and prayers!!

My Dad has served as a Town Commissioner for 2 years now and when the seat for Mayor came up for election he decided that he would run. He has always LOVED his town and he always been a very active part of the community. Many people worked really hard on his campaign and on Tuesday night the people of Snow Hill elected him Mayor. I wanted to share with you that my brother is overseas and he was slated to do a 14 day mission. We were really nerves about this and we kept taking it to God. We just found out that for now it has been cancelled! We serve an awesome God and I am so thankful that I am his daughter. Please continue to pray for the men and women who serve our country.
